|
Greetings from the Northern Neck. |
|
I wish I could tell you that the real estate market
was hot and heavy here in the Northern Neck but I cannot. |
|
There are some great deals out there but no one is
jumping. Consumer confidence is at a low and I sure hope things turn
soon but with fuel prices where they are am not in great expectations.
Does this remind anyone of Jimmy Carter's disapprove ratings being
higher than his approval ratings and the high fuel prices. |
|
I wish fuel prices were at the 1980's level again. I
think Iran and Afghanistan were in the news then too. Some things never
change. |
|
Since I can't tell you how you need to hurry down
here and buy a piece of property before it is all gone then I'll tell
you about my real love, working on the water. |
|
For those that are new to my monthly news letter I
was once a full time commercial waterman. Today I do it on a limited
bases. It is one of those things that you just can't get out of your
blood. |
|
The Virginia Waterman's Association's campaign to
make a difference in the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay has drawn a
lot of interest. At our April meeting we got a lot of coverage from the
press. One of the local papers videoed the meeting and you can see
excerpts of that meeting by clicking
VIDEO. It
is a FANTASTIC video and you won't be disappointed. |
|
Since that meeting we have been contacted by a major
environmental organization who has asked if they could sue EPA on the
behalf of the Virginia Waterman's Association. EPA will not meet their
obligations to have the Bay healthy by 2010. |
|
On April 17, 2008 our Congressman, Rob Wittman wrote
Governor Kaine and asked him to declare the crab industry a disaster.
|
|
The
Virginia Waterman' Association got a lot of help from the public in
an email campaign generated from their website asking people to send an
email to Governor Kaine. |
|
On May 2, 2008 Governor Kaine wrote to the Secretary
of Commerce, Carlos Gutierrez, asking him to declare Virginia's blue
crab industry a disaster. Never once in that letter was overfishing
mentioned. Instead the blame was put on the degraded water quality of
the Bay and loss of habitant. This is what the waterman has been saying
for years. |
|
I think we are making a difference and you can help
too by putting the pressure on Senators Warner and Webb. |
|
If you go to,
TO: SENATORS WEBB and WARNER: SUPPORT A FISHERY RESOURCE DISASTER!
you will find the contact links for Virginia's 2 Senators. You will also
find the content that you can copy and paste in that email to the
Senators. Together we can all make a difference. The momentum has
started. Please help to keep it up. If you want to do more then PLEASE
FORWARD this email to those in your contact list and ask them to do the
same. |
|
The Bay is a Natural Resource and it has
Constitutional Protection here in Virginia. Demand your right to
unpolluted water and clean air. |
|
I'll get of my soapbox now so you can contact the
Senators. Remember that you can always search the
Northern
Neck MLS and if you see something you like then give me a call. We
can take a look and talk about it and the Bay over lunch. |
