Dear {FirstName}, |
 |
I always say that I'm going
to do a better job of getting this newsletter out on time. Well here it is the
first of December and I made it! The only problem is I didn't get one out last month so I don't know if I'm a month late or right on time. Since it
is a Christmas tree to your left and not a turkey I think I'm right on time and
I hope you and your family had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Well let me tell
you what is going on here the Northern Neck. |
You all know by now that I am not a high pressure real estate salesman. I figure
that if I give you access to the
Northern
Neck MLS then when you are ready you'll come see me. I hope you appreciate
that and realize that when you do come I'll work hard for you. I know that
the Northern Neck is not for everyone. I've got 3 brothers and all of them live
in Richmond. Daddy always said I was the smartest of his 4 boys so I guess that
proves it. Anyway one of my brothers and his wife have their home for sell. It's
a beautiful home and in a super location. I've been told that all they want for
Christmas is a contract on their house so if you buy it I can take them of my
Christmas list. If you have an interest but can't get to Richmond then
take this
virtual tour. |
| Now I can start telling you about
all those things that make me proud to call the Northern Neck home. As you might
remember in my last newsletter I was telling you about a new company, the
Oyster Company of Virginia, that has started
up and their headquarters will be in Kilmarnock. The company has a twofold
mission. Naturally one of those missions is to be profitable but the other is
promoting the sustainable return of
our native 'Virginia Oyster' ("Crassostrea virginica") as the basis for the
health of the Chesapeake Bay and its ecosystem by accelerating programs and
projects with proven results and "enlisting" our Virginia
Watermen as an important part of the solution.
|
| The company is moving ahead fast
and the 12 waterman that are going to deploy 24 million baby
oysters in the
water this spring and summer have been chosen. A mature oyster has the
capability to filter 50 gallons of water per day. These oysters will be harvested but
they will all be replaced, the 12 watermen will grow their operations, and more
watermen will be added to the program. There will always be more oysters going
in the water than coming out. As a result a lot of water will be filtered and
cleaned. |
| Part of the funding for this
project comes through the sale of the cages. An individual, corporation, or
civic group buys a cage or cages in their name, a friend or family member's name
and that cage gets assigned to one of the 12 waterman. The waterman assigned to
your cage will deploy the cage, work, and care for the oysters. It takes about 2
years for the oysters to grow out. After the growout period the waterman assigned
to that cage will harvest and ship 2 dozen oysters with his appreciation to you
for your support in restoring his workplace, the Chesapeake Bay, to a healthy
ecosystem. Your waterman will ship you 2 dozen freshly harvested
oysters
every year
for life! |
| It makes a great Christmas gift. People that
purchase a cage this month as a Christmas gift won't have to wait until 2012 for
the their receipient to receive his annual gift of 2 dozen oysters. This year
their receipitent will receive a certificate for their cage. Next year and every
Christmas thereafter their waterman will ship them 2 dozen freshly harvested
oysters. |
| Visit
OCVA's website and learn more
about now the oyster and OCVA's watermen can be used to restore the health of the Bay. |
|
Would you like to have an OCVA waterman speak or give a program to your civic
club or group? |
